5 Steps to Take When Relocating
Relocating to the Richmond, Virginia Metro Area, can be an exciting adventure. With its rich history, vibrant culture, and affordable cost of living, Richmond offers a high quality of life for its residents. However, choosing the right neighborhood can be a daunting task. Here are five steps to help you decide where to live in Richmond:
1. Define Your Lifestyle:
With 17 different cities and counties that make up the Richmond Virginia Metro Area there is literally something for everyone. Want a large horse farm with rolling hills as far as the eye can see? We’ve got it! Want a more suburban feel with lots of tree-lined streets? We’ve got that, too! Want a “walkable” lifestyle where you have low maintenance living and everything is within a block or two? Yes, it’s here! Or, maybe you're looking for the hustle and bustle of the City? Look no further! Like I said, literally something for everyone!
2. Budget
Richmond has a variety of price points available depending on the area and what home characteristics that you are looking for. However, it is important to talk with a local lender to be sure you are comfortable with the monthly payment at that particular price point. Another item to consider is the tax rate is different for each locality. Finally, always remember, you max budget may not be your comfort budget, so be sure to consider your other financial obligations prior to deciding on a desired price point.
3. Consider Your Commute:
Proximity to Work: If you're commuting to a specific location, choose a neighborhood that is conveniently located.
Public Transportation: Consider using public transportation options like GRTC Transit or Amtrak. However, these are somewhat limited, so if public transportation is important be sure to add this to the top of your list.
Traffic Patterns: Research traffic patterns to avoid rush hour congestion. If you are traveling from western Henrico to the City of Richmond around 8:00 AM you can count on hitting some traffic on I-64 & I-95.
4. Research School Districts:
Public Schools: If you have children, research the quality of public schools in your desired neighborhood. The Richmond Metro Area is home to many award winning schools.
Private Schools: Consider private school options if you prefer a private education.
5. Explore Local Amenities:
Shopping and Dining: Look for neighborhoods with convenient shopping centers, grocery stores, and restaurants.
Parks and Recreation: Consider the availability of parks, recreational facilities, and outdoor activities.
Healthcare: Research the quality of local hospitals and healthcare providers.
